Dirty Leeds is a struggling industrialised city in the North of England, 1961.  It has seen better days.

Dirty Leeds is the city’s club, laughably called a football team, their home ground Elland-road, laughably called a stadium.  Both have seen better days.

Dirty Leeds is where young Jimmy O’Rourke was born and bred, brought up by his grandma close to Elland-road.  A rare breed, he is one of the few Leeds United followers of the early 60’s.  Even more unusual is his ambition to play professionally for the team. He is hoping to see better days.

Dirty Leeds is the label thrown at the Leeds United team in 1964 by the Football Association.  Managed by Don Revie and containing players such as Billy Bremner, Jack Charlton, Bobby Collins, John Giles and Norman Hunter, the team had just won promotion to Division One with a record number of points, while certain other first teams had much worse disciplinary records.  But mud sticks.

Dirty Leeds is a hidden history of Don Revie and his Leeds United men, as they vie to be the best team in not only England but Great Britain and Europe too.  And Dirty Leeds is the story of Jimmy O’Rourke’s dramatic life from 1961 to 1974.

DIRTY LEEDS is the latest novel by Robert Endeacott, author of ‘One Northern Soul’ and ‘No More Heroes’.
